Our Stained Glass Windows
The stained glass windows at Emmanuel feature scriptures and saints. They were created by Conrad Schmitt Studios of Milwaukee.
"Church windows are used for beauty in a church, but primarily are to be an inspiration for meditation and prayer. Philosophers tell us that the Absolute, the ultimate Truth, that lies behind the show of things, can be apprehended or expressed only through symbols. Humans touch and see only the outer fringes, the deceptive phenomena of Reality, yet the final Truth is there. That is why we have art in all its varied forms, for in its highest inexpressible ideas. Of course, being a great virture, symbolism also has its danger and that is that the symbol may be taken as the very thing symbolized. " - a quote from the presenting material at time of dedication.
In addition to the large Christ window in the sanctuary, there are windows featuring the eight beatitudes and the great commandment along the south wall of the Nave. The windows of the four evangelists are in the chapel and symbols of the twelve apostles are featured in the choir loft behind the organ pipes. Also, there is stained glass in the narthex and upstairs in the Nicholas center. Stained glass art has been added to the doors leading from the narthex into the sanctuary.
